Comicpalooza

We loved Comicpalooza! The staff was awesome and we had a great time at our forum, “How to Film on a Budget”. The audience asked good questions and we enjoyed speaking with everyone and sharing our experience what it was like to make a microbudget film and little tips and tricks for others to use. Christopher Lowe brought Matt Risoldi’s DYI microphone blimp and we talked tech about the DSLRs. If we have another DYI panel, I’ll make sure we include more about camera tracks and dollies.

The Comicpalooza booth did well. We were next to the Reverent Rangers, who are the founders of the Wierd West Fest where we’ll have a screening in December. Professor Elemental was to our right and the picture below is him flipping the switch of an actual piece from Victor Frankenstein’s laboratory. Splendid!

Our e-mail list serve bloomed to over 220 new members and we’re still growing. We loved speaking to Houstonians about our local project and explaining the upcoming independent film circuit.

Right now the post-production team is putting the finishing touches on the final draft of the film. If all goes well, it’ll be shipped out next week for competitions that begin in October. We’ll keep everyone informed. Our first trailers also should be finished sometime next week.

We’re having a screening at ApolloCon at 4:00pm on June 22nd, 2013. We are looking forwards to it.  I can’t wait to show how we brought back the old and made it something new.–Judith

First Step Cinematics, LLC will have a booth at Comicpalooza to promote Frankenstein’s Monster. Comicpalooza takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center from May 24-26th.

Our Comicpalooza programming will include a special DIY panel on how to film on a budget. As soon as they announce the date of the panel, we will let everyone know. This will not be a screening. Our booth will include a raffle for autographed gear, a Mary Shelley quiz, and more. I’m personally excited that our little corner of the convention will part of a steampunk laboratory.

We have a limited time (and amount) of guest ticket rates.

Film editing “Frankenstein’s Monster”

I’ve cut at least 13 scenes in the last 10 days. Basically my brain is the consistency of V8 now, and I live in constant dread that the tops of people’s heads are going to drift out-of-frame.

First Step Cinematics LLC finally has its Facebook page up. As a new Texas startup, it is an exciting challenge to build this group.

It has been quiet on the blog, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped. We’re right now in the middle of post-production and are working full-steam.

A teaser about our cast:

10 out of our 18 member cast are Shakespearean trained actors. 8 of the 32 cast and crew are educators. Our youngest actress is 14, our oldest actor is over 70. Our community hails from New York, California, Texas, Russia, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.

The entire film was shot in south-east Texas.

Ahoy Everyone!

We would like to thank the Elissa for the generous opportunity to film aboard. We had fun!

This weekend will be our last production date. From there–we will focus more on our post production.

Below we have an opening moment from Frankenstein’s Monster.

We have two Houston events coming up in Summer: Comicpolooza and ApolloCon. Both will have different panelists and subjects.

In this post, we will highlight what we’re doing at Comicpolooza–the largest sci-fi convention in Houston, Texas.

I am honored that we’re going to be at so many conventions. I have to give special thanks to Comicpolooza which has streamlined the convention process for us.

Unlike ApolloCon which will be an intimate panel with the actors, the Comicpolooza panel gives a chance for techies to go crazy!

HERE is the link for the updated schedule of events. Once we finish post-production and the indy film circuit begins, this page will be constantly updated.

So what are we up to at Comicpolooza?

The 1918 Sterling Movie House

Sterling Movie House

Many things made Giddings an attractive location for the Weird West Fest.  In addition to the historic train depot, we will be having a very special event in a century old movie house, the Sterling Movie House.

Before the lavish theatres of the Twenties and Thirties, the storefront was the most common design for theaters built between the years of 1900 and 1919.  It was this type of movie house that would have shown THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY (1903), the first Western movie.

Frankenstein’s Monster will be shown here during the Weird West Fest, with a portion of the ticket sales going to the restoration fund for the Sterling Movie House

The Weird West Fest is being held this December 7th in Giddings Texas.

A quick note from Judith B. Shields:

Thank you Preacher’s Powderworks and Projectiles! Everyone, here is the link for the Weird West Fest’s Facebook page, which continually updates with new announcements of other guests, bits of western culture and events.
