At SpaceCityCon in Moody Hotel and Convention Center in Galveston, Texas First Step Cinematics will be hosting two events. The first is a microbudget filmmaking panel in which we will also discuss some of the historical locations we shot at.The second event is a free for SpaceCityCon ticketed attendees: a screening of our film, Frankenstein’s Monster.

Frankenstein’s Monster may be showing at a Steampunk Convention near you!

We have great news! We’re an official selection for the WorldCon–71st Anniversary (LoneStarCon3) Film Festival!
PLEASE NOTE: While the general Science Fiction convention will be located at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the FILM FESTIVAL will be located at the nearby Marriott Rivercenter. Our film will be shown once on Friday, August 30th at 8:00pm-10:00pm in Room 13-14. We hope to see you there! Please share with your Texan friends!

Please be sure to stop by our exhibitor’s booth in the Steampunkvillage, next to the Revenant Rangers and the food court. We’re rebuilding part of Frankenstein’s lab. We will have a raffle for autographed photos and a chance to win one of our three limited edition buttons.
If you were ever afraid to film, but don’t know where to start, this is the place to be. The cast/crew of Frankenstein’s Monster from First Step Cinematics, LLC will take a practical look at filming on a budget for the 21st century. Attendees will be introduced to the basics of microbudget film project planning, logistics, some DIY tech ideas, audio needs, makeup, sets, props, and how to adapt a DSLR camera for filming. Q&A for cast and crew after presentation.
First Step Cinematics, LLC will have a booth at Comicpalooza to promote Frankenstein’s Monster. Comicpalooza takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center from May 24-26th.
Our Comicpalooza programming will include a special DIY panel on how to film on a budget. As soon as they announce the date of the panel, we will let everyone know. This will not be a screening. Our booth will include a raffle for autographed gear, a Mary Shelley quiz, and more. I’m personally excited that our little corner of the convention will part of a steampunk laboratory.

I am very thankful for last weekend. Everyone worked hard together and we recreated Victor Frankenstein’s lab. Special credit goes to Chris Lowe and his amazing set design. I don’t know what was my favorite part of the lab: the coal, apothecary jars, the moving gears, or the pistons. That is describing only a small part of Chris’s awesome work.
Speaking of amazing things: the cast brought it all to life. Special shout out to Matt Risoldi and Dustin Sturgill.
Incorporating the steampunk look in Frankenstein’s Monster:
One of the artistic challenges of our steampunk-light project was how we were going to present steampunk in this story. All of our steampunk props and costume components are designed to practical. In other words: they work and they have purpose. For example: the life that Victor Frankenstein creates runs on steam. The tools he uses are practical. It goes beyond aesthetic. We have limited the steampunk elements for Victor Frankenstein in his lab and for his science experiments.
For now, we are keeping most of our lab scenes and the monster under wraps. We’ll be showing more at sci-fi conventions and also once we have our first official film premiere.
Frankenstein’s Monster will be shown and entered in film competitions and science fiction conventions across the USA and even in Europe. As we get closer to our wrap date, this website will have a new page so everyone can keep track of when/where we will be shown.
